No Equipment Needed!

Although exercise equipment is certainly helpful and useful for a safe and effective workout, it’s not a must!

If you are having one of those days where you feel like you have no time to get to the gym, you can still burn some serious calories.

There are so many exercises that you can do without any equipment at all and still burn calories. Youtube is an excellent source to refer to when you are in need of some exercise ideas to do in your home.

But here is an example of an effective 15 minute exercise routine to help you get started:

  1. Jumping Jacks- be sure to touch your hands overhead and bring them all the way down to your sides.
  2. Jump Squats- squat with your butt going back like you’re sitting in a chair, and then explode up using your arms and go as high off the ground as you can.
  3. Push-ups- Keep your butt down and body straight and go down far enough to create a 90 degree angle in your elbows. Drop your knees to the floor if you have to.
  4. High Knees- run in place ensuring that you bring your knees up above your hips every repetition.
  5. Planks bringing your knee to your elbow- get in the plank position and then bring your right knee to the outside and as close to the right elbow as you can. Then left knee to left elbow.
  6. Lunges- lunge forward until your front knee is 90 degrees, then explode back to the starting position an lunge forward with the left knee; keep your knees behind your toes!

Try doing 20 repetitions of each of these and repeat as many times as you can in 15 minutes only taking breaks when you absolutely need to.

These are just six examples of so many exercises you can do. And it’s not a good idea to only do bodyweight exercises for 15 minutes as your only form of exercise. Gym equipment is the best way to make continual gains in strength and endurance. But when you cannot get to a gym that is no excuse to skip the workout!

Remember that calorie burn is all about exertion; it’s impossible to do an exercise that feels easier but burns more calories than an exercise that feels harder. The next time you only have 15 minutes to exercise, give this a try!
